In 2020, we all know the world changed drastically. Many businesses, including ours, were forced to shut down for several months. It was very difficult, but we survived thanks to God, our family, our staff, friends & strangers we didn’t even know, along with our community. However, there were lasting repercussions that many businesses are still dealing with, i.e. labor shortages, fuel costs, supply issues, rising costs of inflation, etc. These challenges, along with the bittersweet pain of growth & required parking, & the lack thereof, on the Square, have caused us to reassess our current situation & future plan for our business.
It’s Not the End of the Story, but rather the Beginning of a New Chapter. Govan’s Gathering Place began in Feb. 2001 as a Coffee House & Art Gallery. In 2002, we decided to include Henry’s artistic expression & open Govan Expressions, a Full-Service Salon. Over the past 22 years, we’ve had a blast doing lots of things from Live Music, Wine Tastings, Special Events, a Wedding, Rehearsal Dinners, Baby Showers, Mystery Dinner Theatre, Back Alley Blues Bash, Bible Studies, Parties of all Sorts, etc. Throughout the years, we’ve seen first dates end up in happy marriages, babies born who then graduate from college, strangers who have become friends & some like family & we’ve had the heartache of saying good-bye to some who have passed on. Wow, what a journey!
We Still have our Building on the Square, so we hope to focus on other areas of our business, i.e. hosting Art Shows to share the beautiful works of Prof. Govan, as well as other talented artists. We are looking at offering more Educational Opportunities and are open to Other Fun Ideas for our amazing building as well. Our Coffee Bar is still operational, so when we’re there, there will be coffee. We plan to continue selling our gourmet coffee beans & will be able to fill online orders.
